5 Reasons Why Dance Could Save Your Life

According to a study found in The New England Journal of Medicine, dancing may strengthen your memory and prevent the development of dementia as you get older. Science reveals that aerobic exercise can reverse volume loss in the hippocampus, the part of the brain that controls memory. The hippocampus naturally shrinks during late adulthood, which may lead to impaired memory and potentially dementia.

2. Reduces Symptoms of Depression

According to a study that reviewed the effects of dance on people with depression, dancing really does lift your spirits. "Patients who participated in an upbeat group dance showed the fewest depression symptoms and the most vitality."

3. Enhance Your Heart

"Dance is a great activity for those at risk for cardiovascular disease." An Italian study noted that people suffering from heart failure who took up dance, saw greater benefits than those who took up biking or walking on the treadmill. It improves overall heart health, breathing, and quality of life.

4. Reduce Stress

In a controlled study in the Journal of Applied Gerontology, researchers found that partner dance and musical accompaniment can help bring about stress relief.


5. Make Friends

Attending dance classes can be an incredible way branch out socially by meeting new people. The importance of maintaining positive relationships can be ranked amongst other key elements of a healthy lifestyle such as a healthy diet and exercise. Social engagement leads to reduced stress, a stronger immune system, and an overall greater level of happiness and excitement for life.
